It’s a choice between fact and fiction; And the whole world has gone astray; Except there’s no religion, no religion, no religion here today

So, I started out over here reading comments, which led me to here, but this post in particular. I've talked about religion and God before (here, here and here) and I only got through reading about half of that post when a few thoughts struck me. Now maybe this logic doesn't work for anybody else, but in my mind, it works just fine.

I began to reason that because homosexuality DOES exist, it helps to prove that Catholics/Christians are wrong about their God and that maybe it helps, in a small way, to prove that God doesn’t exist at all. Their God says that homosexuality is an abomination right? Then why does it exist? Why would He (or She) have even created the concept? Isn’t it fair to say that because the concept and the reality of homosexuality DOES exist, that God, in Catholic/Christian terms, could not co-exist? He’s all big and self-righteous about saying what a bad thing it is, but if it’s so bad, then why did you create it in the first place? I guess this argument goes along with the argument of Evil. If it’s so bad and we are supposed to love one another, then why does evil exist in the world? Even a religious man such as George W. Bush [as I chuckle and smirk] acknowledges the existence of evil.

Thoughts?

Isn't that why they invented the devil?

Although sine god created everything, including Satan, you wonder how come satan seems to do so well in the fight against god;-) I mean, if you work out the percentage of the world population believing in the christian god (in any form of christianity), it's still minute. God either didn't make himself very clear, doesn't actually want much of humanity sharing heaven with him, or is pretty crap at tactics - whichever, it doesn't fit with an all powerfull, all knowing & all loving god!

I couldn't be bothered to argue with her TBH. I try my best with bloggers who want to debate/disuss or even preach, but not ones who just "you're wrong" without even trying to justify why.

If God has a 'Plan' for everyone.. and everyone is part of the Plan.. then homosexuality is a PART of God's Plan... Therefore what are (some) Christians getting all hot & bothered about?

I REALLY don't understand the whole religious hang-ups about so many aspects of sex... What's all *that* about? Are they afraid that some people are out there having a bit of guilt free fun? I think the uptight one's need to get a life - or get laid more often. If it wasn't so sad it'd be really funny...

Interesting post, as the one who linked Dani on Cyberkitten I'm starting to feel bad that I've exposed her opinions to more people. I'd just encourage people to make some sensible comments on her blog.
As for homosexuality disproving God well it may well do but then if you take Mrs A's point about the minority of humans who believe in a christian god then you don't require homosexuality as an arguement as it's outside the realms of possibility that he created a galaxy several million light years away as well as earth. Oh and all in 7 days 10,000 years ago!

Hi – So I just noticed that you linked to me and thought I would add in my two cents.

You said since, “God says that homosexuality is an abomination right? Then why does it exist?”

Well think of it like this - If God is all good and loving, then there has to be a chance for evil to exist, right? For just like the absence of light is darkness, the absence of good is evil. God did not create evil, it is simply here because God’s goodness is true.

God also says murder is wrong along with incest, pedophilia, bestiality, rape, wife-beating or kidnapping, to name a few – yet those things still exist. God does not create homosexuals anymore than He creates murderers, child molesters, rapists, abusers or kidnappers.

We are all sinful by nature, but God gave each one of us a free-will to choose to do good or evil. He is not some great puppeteer sitting on up in heaven controlling the strings of our lives and forcing us to love Him and do what is good. We have a choice and when we choose what is evil, we will reap what we sow.

P.S. George W. Bush is an Evil man - IMO.

Figures there would be another Dave! :) We have 4 male teachers in my building and 3 of us are Daves. I am getting sidetracked- I shouldn't write at 1 in the morning. Anyway, I was going to say what Dani had just written. I believe that God did give us Free Will. I think that is the ultimate gift since we can always choose what we would like to do. Unfortantely, since money seems to rule our society, a lot of evil is out there. God didn't invent money...we did it to ourselves. Getting back to the God part- everything in our life evolves and changes over time. For example, did the first human have red hair? Probably not...but many have it now. It only takes one chromosomal difference to alter the make up of a person/species...then pass it along to another generation. Of course, I am not at all saying homosexuality can be passed on- but there must be something in the make up of the person that was altered to make that person feel that way. Just like some guys like tall blondes and some like brunettes. Did God directly make that happen? I just think that homosexuality is just one of the combinations that changed over time that made some people feel that way. Not sure if this makes sense...but I believe God will let everything run its course and whatever a person becomes and whatever a person has or doesn't have- will make that person and species stronger...ok...I'm going to bed...:)

I wanted to say one more thing. I don't think there can be good without evil. If everyone is "good" how do you know it is good? There is nothing to compare it to so I don't think it would be possible. I would love to have comments back about this....
